so- so effort from jeff beck
while this certainly is not a bad record, it is a disappointment. while jeff beck had managed to produ e some extraordinary modern reordds recntly, here he threads more traditional ground. as some other reviewers have pointed out this is a much more laid back record than previous ones. it is also much less innovative, indeed this kind of new age jazz guitar has been around for a while and is not that interesting. do not get me wrong, it is a good solid record, flawlessly played but a massi e disappointment when it comes to innovation. for any other artis it would be considered great but for jeff beck it is kind of so-so. at times it comes a little too close to being spa background music. anyway it is still pretty good and better than that wretched live set he released a year ago or so

Good record but....
I always loved Jeff Beck work, this record is interesting mostly about the blend beetwen his guitar and the orchestra (mostly strings). His playing on this record will perhaps disappoint some fans as he plays less notes with less effects than usual; I like it as he shows here an extreme sensivity (we are used to this with him but here it's even more). What I don't like are songs like "I put a spell on you" and others as the singers are not so good to me; I would have prefered an all instrumental record.
But the real thing that bother me (that's why 3 stars only) is the overly compressed sound , sometime distorded or very close to, so that it destroy dynamics like on rap records.....the volume war again that I didn't expect from such a great and sensitive artist.......

Jeff is pushing it
I did not care for this new album at all. I think Jeff is pushing it. Mixing his guitar with classic orchestra or jazz arrangements seems appealing at first, but I found the overall album lacking guts and punch. It's lingering from one piece to another and totally lacks any "commotion". If you loved albums like Beckology, Jeff or Who Else, you may not like this new one. I am glad I tried, because Jeff had surprised me in the past, but I am very disappointed in this latest production.

a fine addition
to any collection.

I was lucky enough to see Jeff Beck in Chastain Park (Atlanta, GA) in June.

I hadn't seen him in concert for a couple decades..

He had a remarkable front band with him, and the lead was a singer named Emelda May- on "Emotion and Commotion", he has featured her talent as well as other fine voices and musicians..

I'd have to compare his "pairing up" to some of what Carlos Santana has done- being one of the finest guitar talents around, and matching it with talent that can compliment it!

Magnum Opus, JeffBeckus. More Pleese
If you love the guitar then get this now.
A Guitar Genius.

This one is about content, not speed and grease. But that is also there for the fusion80's (Hammerhead) set, as well.
Get the new live one (Ronnie Scott's) For That. Lot's of FusionStuff.
BeckBogartAppiceFolks, don't tread here.
The three chicksingers, 2 songs each, are fantastic. Got Imelda's after this. YouTubeHer.
Rockabilly From Dublin? Ok!

I have had this for two months. Yesterday played it all day in car, then 3x at home.

Track 6 Track 6. What is this? "Serene", it will make you wince from the beauty.
"Never Alone". A ThereAndBack revisit, 5x better. Beautiful Guitar. Sweetest ever. No wasted notes here. "Poor Boy". Growling guitar, frightening.

This is a masterpiece of MusicalArt. A Wonderful Visit, from a 42 year Friend.
